The FBI is encouraging consumers to reset their routers to prevent the VPNFilter malware attack. The attack could collect information, block network traffic, and stop your router from working. Consider the below steps to protect yourself:
- Reset your router to disrupt the malware. Turn the router off and on or hold the reset button down on your device. Or consider doing a factory reset of your router.
- Install any firmware updates. These updates are typically found on the manufacturer’s website.
- Create a new, secure password for your router.
- Disable remote management settings.
